Deputy Speaker

Born in Askira town of Askira/Uba Local Government Area on 13th February, 1968. He was enrolled into the Askira Central Primary School from 1975 – 1980 and proceeded to the Government Secondary School, Uba from 1980 – 1985 where he obtained his Leaving School and General Certificates.

Hon. Abdullahi Askira was admitted into the Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri from 1986 – 1989 and obtained National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. On completion of his National Diploma, he further enrolled at the University of Maiduguri and obtained B. ENG ‘G {Electrical}, M. ENG’G {In view} and Masters Degree in Disaster and Risk Management respectively.

Hon. Abdullahi Askira started his early working career with the Ministry of Works and Housing as Assistant Technical Officer in 1990 and rose to the rank of Assistant Director, Electrical and Electronics in 2006 where he voluntarily resigned and joined politics.

During his public service days, he served in many technical and ad-hoc committees, amongst are Chairman Committee on Construction of 300 Teachers’ Village in Maiduguri; Member, Task Force Committee on Constructions of 777 and 505 Housing Estates, Maiduguri; Member, High Powered Committee on the construction of 2,500 houses and 20 Housing Units in all the 27 Local Government Areas in the state.

A Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers {FNSE}, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria {COREN} and Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering {FNIEEE}, was elected to the Borno State House of Assembly in April, 2007, Askira/Uba State Constituency on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party {ANPP} and chaired the House Committee on Works and Housing until the end of the tenure of the 6th Assembly.

Hon. Abdullahi was appointed as Chairman of the newly established Borno State House of Assembly Service Commission on 12th September, 2012; he put all machineries in place for the successful operations of the Commission. He voluntarily resigned his appointment on 9th December, 2014 and re-contested for election into the Borno State House of Assembly. He was overwhelmingly elected for the second time as member of the Borno State House of Assembly during the April, 2015 general elections on the platform of the All Progressive Congress {APC}.

In recognition of his immense contributions for the development of Askira Emirate and Askira/Uba Local Government in general, he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Garkuwan Askira by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Askira.

He is the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport and member, House Committees on Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement; Public Complaint/Petition, Anti-Corruption and Legislative Compliance.

He was re-elected again in 2019 to represent the good people of Askira/Uba Constituency for the third time. During the Inauguration of the 9th Assembly on Monday, 13th June 2019, he was unanimously elected as Deputy Speaker of the House.
