A Dynamic and Erudite Parliamentarian, Hon. Baba Ali Modu was born on Saturday, 31st December, 1972 in Ajiri village of Mafa Local Government Area. Hon. Baba Ali attended Yerwa Central Primary School here in the state capital, Maiduguri from 1983 – 1989 and obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate. He then proceeded to the renowned Arabic Teachers’ College, Maiduguri from 1989 to 1995 where he successfully obtained his Grade II Teachers’ Certificate.

Shortly after his post primary education, young Baba Ali joined politics and has been in politics until he was elected Councillor, Anadua Ward of Mafa Local Government Area under the umbrella of the defunct All People’s Party {APP} from 1999 to 2002. He was re-elected as Councillor, Ajiri ward of Mafa Local Government Area on same platform from 2004 to 2006. Equipped with appreciable political experience, Hon. Baba Ali Modu contested to the Borno State House of Assembly during April 2007 general elections and won the election overwhelmingly to represent Mafa State Constituency from 2007 – 2011. In reciprocation of his unprecedented achievements recorded during his first tenure, he was re-elected to the House during the 2011 and 2015 general elections respectively.

During his first tenure {2007 – 2011}, he chaired the House Committee on Religious Affairs and Special Education as well as member of House Committees on Education, Departments under Governor’s Office as well as Finance and General Purpose.

During his second tenure {2011 – 2015}, Hon. Baba Ali Modu was unanimously nominated as Chief Whip of the House on 6th June, 2011, a position that is usually reserved for experienced and trusted parliamentarian.

Currently, apart from being the Chief Whip for the second time, he chairs the House Service Committee as well as Religious Affairs apart from being a member of the Finance and General Purpose Committee, Committee on Selection, Justice etc.

Mindful of the administrative challenges of his office, Hon. Baba Ali Modu was enrolled into the Consultancy Services of the Kashim Ibrahim College of Education and obtained Diploma in Public Administration.

At the expiration of his tenure, he was re-elected for the fourth time in 2019 under the ruling APC and further endorsed as Whip of the House.

Hon. Baba Ali Modu visited UAE, USA, Cameroon, England, Namibia, South Africa etc. He is happily married with children and likes travelling and reading as hobbies.

A recipient of M. Clean {Anti Corruption Ambassador} awarded by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission {ICPC} and Foundation for Transparency and Accountability {FTA}.
